It’s okay to not have everything figured out.

What is not okay is giving up.

Let me tell you a story about a little girl, Jessica.

Jessica is someone who loves education just like her mum and was always excited to go to school. She went through her pre-primary, primary school, and graduate to high school, and was still happy… nothing to worry about until she went back home on holiday (she was in a boarding school), and then her mum asked her… Jessy baby! What would you like to study and then Jessica said; Mother, I would love to be a doctor because I want to save a life. That’s good the mum replied, you will be a science student then. Jessica did not quite understand what she was getting into but nodded.

The holiday was over and Jessica went back happy as usual and enjoying her new class as a science student in SS2 until the first term was over and the results were out and her science subject was discouraging though Jessica was someone who never really care about results as far as she was learning something new every day a teacher steps into the classroom, she was fine with it but this time around result bothered Jessica seeing the look on her mum’s face.

The mum said; Jessica, you could try out the art class you know? Yeah, Jessica replied.

The holiday was over and Jessica went to an art class in the second term though it was not hard for her to adjust to the subjects because in SS1 we were opportune to offer all the subjects both science and art subjects. Jessica was not happy with the fact that she wasn’t going to be able to save a life and had to keep up with the process because of course, she wanted mama to be happy.

Results were out and Jessica did better in art class than in science class. She went home and mama was happy.

Jessica was not really a social type but she talks to people when necessary and responds.

So when she went back to school for the third term, one of her classmates asked her; Hey Jessy, what will you be studying now in act class?? Well, I want something different from the popular courses we have but I have no idea what it is but I’m enjoying the process, Jessy replied.

It sucks not knowing what you want….. It’s like you moving in one circle.

That is how Jessica felt…

Watching and listening to almost all her classmates knowing what they wanted to study and become.

Every success comes with a struggle.

And just like Jessy, everyone has struggles they battle with every day the only difference is your reaction.

The process kept going even with the awkwardness Jessica never gave up… she never misses an opportunity to find her pace and then it came to a point where she was asked to decide on what she wants to study and still nothing.

But, since it was necessary before writing JAMB (Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board) Jessy decided to call on her mum for a rare course offer and she told her about the ECCE (early childhood and care education) course though Jessy didn’t understand it. Her mum just told her it’s about children and due to the limitation of time she agreed.

Exploration is the best way to discover yourself but one at a time.

Jessica decided to research more about the course and what motivated her was the fact that;

  • You don’t need to be a doctor to save a life.
  • And, it is okay not be to be fully ready. It makes the process interesting.
  • Lastly, you can build a life around your experiences.

In Jessy words “ Even with the feeling of being odd from others choice, of course, I was confident with the fact that my course provided an opportunity for me to save a life differently.

It doesn’t matter what you decide to do, as far as it makes you happy, and you don’t hurt others in the process on purpose.

It’s not how far you fall, but how high you bounce that counts" By Zig Ziglar.

It’s okay to not have everything figured out but it’s not okay to give up.

Here are 4 ways to keep going:

1. Don’t be hard on yourself:

Always remember, it is okay not to understand everything at once because that’s what makes life more interesting.

2. Enjoy the process:

80% of your actions determine the results, so don’t focus so much on the closed door and fail to enjoy what before you.

3. Live by your time:

A lot of times we focus on the success of others because that’s what we seek and that’s what they show us, what about the struggles we don’t see?

Don’t be resentment over others' success, be grateful for where you are, keep working, and believing yours is coming through one day.

4. Be optimistic:

Never lose faith

The sky is your limit and everything takes time so practice patience.

Thank you!
